Our Story
“For 15 years, my wife was misdiagnosed with anxiety and depression. Despite countless medications, nothing seemed to bring her the relief she was searching for. Feeling frustrated and determined to understand her own mind, she dug deeper, eventually discovering that her true diagnosis was ADHD. This revelation opened the door to understanding not only her ADHD but also additional diagnoses, including PTSD, PMDD, and dyslexia—conditions that all fell under the neurodivergent umbrella.
As she learned more, it became clear that managing these overlapping challenges would require more than just medication. We tried many approaches, from therapies to natural remedies, but the most surprising source of calm came from something simple: a weighted blanket. For her, this blanket became a safe space, a way to soothe her mind and reduce anxiety. The gentle pressure helped her feel grounded, reducing overstimulation and offering a sense of comfort that nothing else could.
Inspired by her journey, we created over-whelmed to share this calming tool with others. Our mission is to help people find peace and comfort, providing high-quality weighted blankets that create a true sense of safety and relief in a busy world. We hope these blankets can bring the same sense of calm to your life as they have to ours.”
The Science Behind It
-
What is Deep Touch Pressure (DTP)?
DTP is a form of tactile sensory input that can be applied through physical touch or other objects. It can include hugging, squeezing, massaging, swaddling, or wearing weighted clothing.
-
How it works
DTP releases chemicals in the brain that can produce a feeling of calm. It also provides proprioceptive input, which helps people understand where their body is in space.
-
Benefits
DTP can help people feel calm and organized, and can improve focus, motivation, productivity, and sleep. It can also help people who have sensory sensitivity, or who are feeling stressed, anxious, or overloaded.
